The Goop on the Girl 2009/12/22 15:27:11

Out of all of the Christmas episodes that BONES has done, I wouldn’t classify this as one of the best. Zooey Deschanel guest stars as Brennan’s niece Margret, who quotes Benjamin Franklin rather obnoxiously in her normal conversation. Brenna’s father, Max, invites her over for Christmas to try to make a “real Christmas” for Brennan, who feels like a Christmas with just the two of them would be pointless. Of course she annoys Brennan at first their first meeting, but Booth convinces her that that’s just what family does… they get under your skin. It’s just another part of being family.

While Margret was an interesting character, just due to her weird quirk of quoting Benjamin Franklin (who she thinks is the smartest man in the world), I really didn’t see much of a point to have her come in the picture other than the fact that the Deschanel sisters, and the fans, wanted them to work together at some point. The story could have moved forward without her character, since in the end everyone at the Jeffersonian spent Christmas together. Instead of Max inviting Margret first, he could have invited Booth.

Daisy is back as the intern of the week. She apparently doesn’t celebrate Christmas, mainly due to Jesus’ birth being in March and because Rudolph would have to be a girl due to a technicality about antlers. I was surprised to see that Sweet’s kiss with the movie geek from last week’s episode didn’t seem to affect this behavior towards her at all. Does he not feel any guilt about it? I don’t think that really fits with his character for him to just think it doesn’t matter. Then again, he might have a very specific view on what he considers to be cheating… but on the other hand, so could Daisy. I did have to laugh though at their leetspeak romantic talk to each other, using “less than sign, three” (<3) and “colon, capital P” (:P).
