Randy Quaid and Wife Facing Burglary Charges 2010/9/20 10:19:58

Randy  Quaid and wife Evi are facing burglary charges in California following a homeowner's claims that the Quaids have been squatting in a guest home without permission, according to The Associated Press.

The Quaids arrested in Santa Barbara

The home's property owner called Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies on Saturday to file the complaint. When deputies arrived at the house to find the Quaids, the couple claimed they owned the property since the 1990s, according to the AP.

The property owner's rep provided documentation that showed the property owner purchased the home in 2007 from a man who purchased it from the Quaids several years earlier. A contractor also showed officials more than $5,000 worth of damage to the house that he believed the Quaids caused.

Randy and Evi Quaid plead not guilty to fraud charges

The Quaids were then arrested on misdemeanor charges of felony residential burglary and entering a noncommercial building without consent. Evi Quaid was also charged with resisting arrest, according to the AP. Bail was set at $50,000 each.

The couple was arrested in Santa Barbara in April on outstanding warrants after showing up to court two weeks late stemming from a arrest in September 2009 for allegedly ducking out on a $10,000-plus hotel tab in Santa Barbara County. After not showing up for previous court hearings, they pleaded not guilty to fraud charges. The felony charges were later dropped against Randy, and Evi was sentenced to three years' probation and ordered to perform 240 hours of community service.
