Man Watched Office Episodes to Relax During Trip Down the Amazon River 2010/8/11 10:50:55

And you thought David Brent was a terrible motivator.

Former British army captain Ed Stafford, 34, has become the first man known to walk the length of the Amazon River after completing a two-and-a-half year journey on Monday, according to The Associated Press.

His only way to unwind in between fighting deadly snakes and living off the land? Listening to podcasts by British comedian Ricky Gervais and watching episodes of The Office that he downloaded on his Internet satellite phone.

The 800-day journey — during which Stafford was held captive by Indians and collapsed 53 miles short of his destination Sunday — spanned 4,200 miles.

Stafford, who hopes his trip will raise awareness of the Amazon, is planning another expedition in September 2011. No word on what show he will watch on that trek.
