Cold Case chillin', Unusuals estranged 2009/5/19 11:37:58

CBS picks up another season of Cold Case, ABC cancels The Unusuals; future of Without a Trace in the air.

Cold Case won the battle.
CBS has been the quietest of all the networks during the busy pre-upfront period, keeping the lid tight on its 2009-2010 plans, but word about what's going on behind The Eye is finally getting out. First to hit the street: CBS has renewed Cold Case.

Cold Case was one of CBS' bubble shows despite drawing strong audiences. However, it's being compared to fellow CBS procedurals NCIS, CSI, and The Mentalist, all of which have greater returns on similar budgets. Cold Case will return for its seventh season next fall.

But good news for Cold Case means bad news for Without a Trace. Going into this season, it was thought that CBS would be holding onto one--but not both--of the procedurals as it tries to keep costs down in this crummy economy. Without a Trace is considered a contender for midseason, however. CBS will reveal its 2009-2010 schedule on Wednesday.

ABC's The Unusuals won't be returning to television next season, tweets the show's creator, Noah Hawley.

"Friends, just heard The Unusuals will not be back for a second season. Thanks for all your amazing support," reads the Twitter message.

The Unusuals was considered a long shot to return, and with ABC's armada of new shows coming in, space needed to be made.
