For the first time in the American Idol's eight-year history, aspiring contestants can submit audition videos through MySpace.com.

Those hoping to be the next Carrie Underwood or Clay Aiken must perform — a cappella — one of the songs from an approved list. Videos are limited to 40 seconds or less, and one submission is permitted per person.

Entrants will also be able to share their audition tapes online, and a highlights reel will be made for the official Idol MySpace page. (MySpace and the Fox network are owned by News Corp.)

Fans can submit their audition tapes from now through Oct. 6.

"American Idol has established itself as the largest stage to find and elevate new artists," MySpace Music President Courtney Holt said. "Marrying this year's auditions with MySpace, a platform renowned for discovering new talent, allows the show to broaden its reach online in the search for Season 10 hopefuls."
