Marlene King, Serle & King developed the novel into a television series starring Bella Thorne, to premiere on April 18, 2017 on Freeform.Famous in Love Season 1 ABC Family, the previous name for Freeform, had picked up the pilot for fast-track development on March 19, 2015.The pilot was shot in November 2015; Freeform greenlit the pilot on April 7, 2016,and shooting began on July 13 and wrapped on October 18, 2016. Freeform announced on November 18, 2016 that the series would premiere on April 18, 2017.
