Smallville's Future Meets Melrose Place 2009/1/23 9:55:35

Two of the showrunners at Smallville might be taking charge of the CW's planned new version of Melrose Place, reports EW.com's Michael Ausiello. Originally, the project was being offered to One Tree Hill showrunner Mark Schwahn, but Ausiello says that deal could not be completed because Schwahn is committed to the Warner Bros. produced Hill, while Melrose Place is being produced by Paramount.

In the case of Smallville, Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin are two of four writers who were elevated to co-showrunners this season, after original creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough departed. Swimmer and Slavkin may now leave to do Melrose, but if they do, their fellow co-showrunners, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson would likely remain on to run Smallville in Season 9.

Yes, you read that correctly - Smallville: Season 9… According to Ausiello, Warner Bros is already finalizing deals for the cast of that show to return for another year, most importantly Tom Welling as Clark Kent. While The CW has yet to officially renew the show, it is looking increasingly likely it will happen.
